The Tennessee Holocaust Commission offers an introductory, three-day seminar at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum for secondary teachers. This intensive learning and interactive opportunity is designed for all subject areas grades 7-12. Some experience teaching about the Holocaust is preferred.

The seminar focuses on content and methodology, makes extensive use of the Museum's exhibits and includes a question-and-answer session with a Holocaust survivor. Museum seminars will be led by their education specialists--master teachers and historians. One day will be devoted to creating reproducible teaching units from the new book The Holocaust and Other Genocides: History, Representation, Ethics and its companion Teacher Guide. Veteran Tennessee teachers Paul Fleming and Griff Watson will serve as resources. Copies of both books will be provided to all participants.

Funding for this opportunity comes from the Tennessee Holocaust Commission (THC) and from each participant or their school system. Here's what's included:

* THC pays for $325 of each teacher’s total expenses ($650)--airfare, 3 nights in a hotel (double occupancy), bus transfers and a city tour. Meals are not included.
* Participants, or their schools/school systems, pay $325.
* Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis for 25 teachers and must be accompanied by a deposit of $50 that will be applied to the participant's cost.

For more information regarding seminar details contact Ruth Tanner or Stacey Knight in the THC office.
