Tennessee's
Holocaust Memorial
Dedicated in
1986, Tennessee's official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust
stands on the grounds of the State Capitol in Nashville. This living
memorial of six cedar trees surrounds a permanent marker on a stone
base. The cedars, native to Tennessee, are planted on the sloping
Capitol grounds facing a broad avenue. On the plaque the following
words are inscribed: "We must never forget. The people of Tennessee
dedicate these trees to the six million innocent victims of the
Nazi Holocaust (1939-1945). Let all other generations remember so
that no other holocausts occur."
